A Fox rescue - - video story of a friendship

A Friendship between a Man and a Fox

I saw this today and really liked it.

I have carried cats sort of like this in the past.

They do have a real friendship. How cool!

And I'm glad that the fox is now OK. I love the walk at the end of this video.

Facebook thoughts for today - are you on Facebook?

Are you on Facebook?

I am. I like it a lot. I have met some old friends there, and also some new ones.

Powder Blug Tang fish by Joi Ito at Fotopedia.com.

I like sharing some jokes and animal pages and photos for my followers too. Sometimes my Facebook friends share travel photos and also photos of animals and wild natural areas.

I also like to share my photographs there on Facebook, and also on Flickr.

If you know me personally, I have my personal Facebook page here:

And if you don't (that's OK!) try my Like Facebook page here:
My Like Facebook page.

It will be nice to have you as my Facebook friend there.

I enjoy seeing what others are doing, joining groups on Facebook, being an activist there, and seeing the news too.

What do you like about Facebook? Have you been on it long?

Phillips Toy Mart in Nashville Tennessee - some photos too

How fun to see these toys! I (again!) saw things I really liked at Phillips'.

Well, we went to Phillip's Toy Mart again, getting ready for Christmas and just generally seeing what was there.

There are still some neat erasers there (in different shapes) but not so many as last year. Maybe they will make a purchase of more later.

The train set is still up, and getting lots of interest from the younger set (and me!)

This is a great store. I saw some mirrored pens from India, a great doll selection, some magnetic paper dolls, lots of trains, and the best little "stocking stuffers" imaginable up front. I also liked some of the new style stuffed animals and the Babushka doll from Russia. I used to have one of those!

Here are some pictures that may take you back to childhood or just make you want to be a kid again! Personally, I think lots of these toys are great for all ages.

Here is the front door - and those so-cute monsters.

The aisles are just crammed with neat stuff.

See the little face across the table? :-)

You can see all the photos I took here on my my Fan Page on Facebook . See you there!

Our trip to Porter Road Butchers in Nashville, Tennessee

Porter Road Butcher Shop is in Nashville, Tennessee.

This is a neat place. They know where their meat, cheese, and other foods come from. They also have a website and are on Twitter.

Yes, the meat is priced high, but it looks great. They have salads that are good deals, like chicken salad (mostly meat) and ham salad (ditto). The ham salad was so full when we bought it that it made a LOT of sandwiches.

They also have some soup stocks that I may buy there next time.

Meat eaters: this place is worth a visit. Here are some photos from our visit:

5 Great Things Organizing Is Doing for Me

My Organizing Journey - - here are some fun things about it.

Everyone knows the downside of organizing (and cleaning!) - - the time, the effort, the packing, the getting rid of stuff, the dusting, the labeling, the foot and muscle soreness, etc. etc.

But there are some really great things about it too.

Here are some I thought of lately:

1. I am finding things I thought I lost!

2. I feel good about myself.

3. I am excited about projects for the future, finding crafts and etc. while organizing.

4. I am getting rid of dust and old magazines, plus recycling paper, magazines, books, and cardboard.

5. I am getting in better shape doing a lot of carrying and walking.

Are you organizing too? Or are you pretty much caught up with that? Do you do Spring Cleaning instead, and then stay on top of it?

I am definitely on an Organizing Journey because I tend to collect things that need to go, like magazines, old books, new books, etc. etc. Now I am sharing these things with others, donating to thrift stores, trading in for other books, and putting things where they go.

There are some groups I use now to get me motivated and to help me stay on course with my organizing. The best one is the FlyLady group. Although they do have some things for sale there, most of their services are free, like a free daily planning page, hints, and a message board.

Are you organizing too? Leave your thoughts about organizing and cleaning below. Do you have some handy tips?

And thanks for visiting today! :-)

A summer trip to Jackson's Orchard near Bowling Green Kentucky, in 2012

Was this day ever hot!

I just finished putting some photos on Facebook of this too. Jackson's Orchard is on a hill and has a great view. You drive up a really big hill to get there. They have lots of apple trees and now peaches too.

I took pictures of part of the inside of the shop (that looks like a barn) and also of the family house, and the parking lot.

If you live in the area, you will want to go to Jackson's Orchard to get peaches, apples, apple and peach pies, and many kinds of canned goods and preserves. It's a fun trip. OH - and don't forget the slushies. Mmmmmm.... so frosty and cold.

It was funny to remember coming here years ago in our old car... it barely made it up the hill. Now we didn't worry. It was a really fun trip.

You can see more photos online and Like my Fan Facebook page here:

And here is Jackson's Orchard's website AND Facebook page.
AND they have a Twitter page here and have three videos on YouTube too.

Fairy Doors and Houses for the Yard - some photos and illustrations.

Fairy doors and houses

I love these. There are many examples and photos of Fairy doors and houses online. Check Etsy. I have been making a huge Fairy Door down at the Pots Place, which may or may not be too dry now to decorate more. It's ready for a first firing probably.

I have run into some neat illustrations of different ways to put a fairy door or house. Some include stepping stones and windows. Some include green plants and flowers too.

Here are some I found today.

The first photo is of a tiny pumpkin fairy house by Tiny Froglet:

Next is a plastic hous. I love the colors, the door, and the postbox in this one!

And here is a house for a gnome. It is called Gnome Reaching Home. The lamp is a neat touch.

Art by Garland Cannon.

It will be fun to get to work on the Fairy Garden when the weather is better. Right now it's all about organizing too.

Have plans for the 4th? We are in a "no burn" area because it is so dry. So DON'T try to do fireworks at home if you live here or in another dry area.

And be careful of the Fairy's homes too. :-)

My mother's house has sold... I'm wrapping my mind around it...

Well... my mother's home is sold, and the new owners are moving in. Really. It is only just now sinking in. I just couldn't wrap my mind around it this week - - or for months, in fact.
This beautiful iris picture is from the moon and stars blog.

Every bit of this house still has a story with it - - to tell the truth, hundreds of stories to it! The house, the yard, coffee at the kitchen table, talks and laughs.

Pool parties, tomato plants, the sound of the noisy mower, the leaves falling in the Fall, cook-outs in the back yard, watching the bats swoop down into the pool at night, the bird sounds during the day, the white squirrel and the brown squirrels, picking your feet up from the concrete because the sun was baking it.

More memories...

Laughs and shouts outside, the dogs barking next door, the sounds of the wind in the trees, the cicadas calling from the other trees and the wonderful feeling of water in my hair and swinging in the hammock strung between two trees.

The memories can make me cry, and I think my sisters are also sad, one of whom more or less grew up there in middle and high school.

I spent a lot of time there though, and somehow I wish it were NOT sold yet... but I know it's best for the house and the yard to have somebody love it and fix it up the way THEY want. I guess I just want to hang on to things that are already gone. I am homesick for this house, but I must face facts. The house is gone, gone to another family, and things will never be the same.

But I REALLY want the house to just stay the same, and Mom to still be there too. I guess I want to go back to years past, before everything changed. But at the same time, I do know that all things must change in life.

Things don't ever stay the same...

I know that, I do! But still I don't want things to change. Ever.

My mother died in February. And she really loved that house. It would not have been the same to have lived there without her, of course, but still.

Personally, I don't see how anyone that has lived in any house for a long time can bear to sell it, no matter what.

I know this will get better with time. And on the good side, a really nice family is living there now. I am sure they will take good care of it.

The Phoebe Allen Live Hummingbird Webcam - so fun!

Are you on Facebook? I found a great link on there yesterday. Of course, I shared it there. Now I am sharing it here too. It is a hummingbird nest with two eggs that have hatched, by Phoebe Allen.

It uses not YouTube, but UStream as its publishing method. The webcam is fun! As I write this, the baby birds are hatched and in the nest. I think the parent or parents are out searching for food.

I would like to do a BirdCam sometime too!

There is a short ad here first. No getting around it. But it isn't too long.

Streaming by Ustream

There are more clips from other years here:

Have a great summer day.

Ning Alternatives... for your group or interest

Are you a member of a Ning group?

I was member of three different Ning groups in the past who have left the site. Ning is a great social networking site. The problem is, it is expensive. The reason some groups left was that Ning once offered FREE group memberships, but does not now.

To be fair, I do like Ning as a platform for a club. It allows groups of all kinds with not much programming knowledge to have a pretty full-featured site that is fun to visit online.

You can personalize your site there too, and make your group signup completely like you want. You can limit access also.

BUT for me the objection was not having a free choice or alternative inside the platform.

Now several other sites offer group postings and free bulletin boards for those who have a club with not a lot of extra spending money.

Some of these sites I have noticed on my emails and groups. It is called BigTent. I will go to explore it later and find out if I want to use it. Right now I use Yahoo Groups and I like it. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles, but it does have a moderated membership and postings where I can take out offensive or ad postings, plus screen potential group applicants to make sure they aren't just trying to advertise too.

There are also some other startup groups that are not as well-known yet. Some of these are SocialGO, Webs, (http://www.webs.com/), and mixxt.

(Note: somebody has bought Grouply, so don't bother trying to put your group there. There may be others like this too.)

June 12th Holidays and More, Loving Day, Crowded Nests, and Peanut Butter Cookies.

Holidays for today, June 12th, 2012, and
Betsy's Soapbox for the Day.

Some beautful and colorful flowers from Vicci at her Moon, Stars, and Paper blog

According to the site Brownielocks.com (their June page), today has three different holidays they like. Here they are, in no particular order.

#1. Crowded Nest Awareness Day

#2. National Peanut Butter Cookie Day

and

#3. Loving Day, a day celebrating legalized interracial marriage. (The name is from the Loving vs. Virginia court case). I didn't know much about this ruling until the last few years. Find out more at the Loving Day website.

I especially like the last name of the first couple (Loving!) to be legally married and have different races.

It's hard to pick a favorite between these. The best and most important day is probably #3, because it celebrates repealing a situation that wasn't right in the first place.

I do love peanut butter cookies, though people who are allergic probably don't, but hopefully can have almond cookies or something to approximate the nutty-good taste.

Crowded Nest Awareness Day is another one I have not heard of. BUT I do know about a site and page that celebrate this awareness in a big way every day. It is called  Gypsy Nesters. This couple celebrates their life without kids by traveling and writing about their free and gypsy-like life.

It is a whole new and original take on being an empty nester. Their description of their website is "The Gypsy Nester - Celebrating Life After Kids - Breaking the Empty Nest Rules."

Here they are on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/gypsynesters.

Know of more neat holidays today? List them below as a comment.

Today is Kamehameha Day in Hawaii. It is a State Holiday there.

Today is June 11th, 2012 - Kamehameha Day in Hawaii!

I think this would be a GREAT day to be in Hawaii. They have "lei-draping, dancing, and King Kamehameha the Great's statues are draped in lei's. Also, games, fairs, and tours are held.

This is a beautiful photo of Oahu, Hawaii.

This photo is of Oahu Makapuu Point, and is by Alex, who has a travel blog.

King Kamehameha the Great united all the Hawaiian islands in the 1700's, giving more of a political identity to Hawaii.

This holiday sounds really nice, and is a State holiday there in Hawaii.

Read a poem about Kamehameha Day 2012 from the Caddo Veil site

Events today for the holiday - from The Maui News

Have you ever stayed in Hawaii? What is a nice place to stay? What island should a first-time visitor go to?

Jammin' at the Street Fair in Downtown Bowling Green, Kentucky

There's a band playing and lots of booths up...

I am down at the Pots Place right now for Second Saturday in Bowling Green, Kentucky. I will have some photos to post here later too.

I went to see Suzie and Holly's booth. They are to the right of the band, and are selling lots of different jewelry. Some is fine jewelry and some is costume jewelry that is SO cute. I got some for Christmas presents that I think people will really like. I was really happy about the prices too. The bracelets are only $5.00 and there are other things for as cheap as $3.00.

I haven't gone around to check out the other booths, but hopefully I can later on. Right now some carpenters are here to give a price on fixing the bathroom here downstairs. It DOES help to have a bathroom downstairs!

So hopefully it will be fixed soon.

I can hear the band right through the windows and door.

It's a perfect day for the Second Saturday Street Fair too. Many families are out and about and having fun. I see colorful balloons and people walking dogs around the Fountain Square park pathways too.

The handyman service (A Cout Above Handyman) just gave a quote on the bathroom here. Yay!

People are going around the square on a Horse and Carriage ride every so often. I love to watch the horses.

All in all, a good day.

Kentucky has a really beautiful landscape - even from the side of the road.

The State of Kentucky is so beautiful.

Even while driving, you can see gorgeous vistas including corn crops, trees, rocks, clouds, and lots of green.

I took a few pictures today on the way back from a friends' 50th Wedding celebration. It was a mixture of a family reunion, 50th Wedding celebration, and a getting-to-know-you fun time.

These photos were taken on the way back home. My camera behaved for the most part. These pictures had to be lightened up some. I may try painting one of these scenes and seeing how it comes out.

Beautiful stones.

Field and flowers.

An old red barn.

Stones, flowers, and sky.

Almost home!

I think just looking out onto farmland and beautiful trees really was relaxing today. I think there should be a real push towards saving farmland and re-developing the cities instead of carving out new developments and making these vistas into more of the same-same houses and roads.

Getting ready for another Gallery Hop - and thoughts about the weekend 2012

Events this Weekend - - it's a busy one!

I just made another Pots Place Newsletter and sent it out.

Here is that link:
The Pots Place Newsletter #5.

If you live in the area, (Bowling Green, Kentucky) you can join this list here to get the newsletter:

Tomorrow is another Gallery Hop in Bowling Green Kentucky. I like these! I don't remember having one to attend when I was growing up, and I like this idea. Here is a picture of another Gallery Hop last year (below). I used these on my newsletter too.

Venues can show other artist's work, and all Galleries get to be in it (they join it for a fee).

I also like the World's Greatest Studio Tour too, but it's just once a year. The Gallery Hop has five different Hop evenings.

The Highland Games are this weekend too, in Glasgow, Kentucky at Barren River State Park. I hope to be able to go there some day. It looks like so much fun. They have games, food, concerts, and a lot more.

And here are some more websites to explore:

A Trip Back in Time to Park Mammoth

Was this ever fun today.

We went up the hill to Park Mammoth Resort and saw that it was more popular than ever. People were coming to the restaurant from all over for the good buffet, and they had advertisements up for the popular shooting range there, and they were also advertising new houses people could build in a new section called Cedar Pointe.

We tried to find this area and may have come close today.

We drove around and found what might have been Cedar Pointe Campground, popular years ago. There were no signs there (yet), but there is a lot of room near the Resort that is all forest except one big meadow that may have been the campground, with hookups still there from the past.

Here is the main entrance to the Park Mammoth Hotel.

I took some photos of the Barn Room and hallways we used to use for ConCave before the event was moved to a hotel with more rooms. As Rickey reminded me, there is not enough room here now even if they wanted to hold the Concave event here now that the place has been improved.

This display tells about the popular shooting range.

We also saw some mounds and numbers of shooting areas that are used for shooting events.

There was an event there this weekend too, plus in-town guests there to have a nice brunch.

We saw a path where the small-gauge mini-train used to be before we started coming here.

Inside, the new Cave Valley Winery had a little store there, but it wasn't open.

Someone using the shooting range.

I would love to go back here to Park Mammoth another day and maybe even stay there again. Today was peaceful but hot. It didn't stop people from going to a History tent event though.

There was some nice art on the walls, which I liked to see too.

You can see the blue and white striped event tent from here.

Armed Forces Day - some links to help

Today is Armed Forces Day.

When I think about our armed forces, I think of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. People are still in harms way there, both the military and civilians, ours and theirs. I greatly admire our armed forces, many who have been forced to spend a very long time away from friends and family.

Who would have thought that these wars would last so long? I wish for a speedy end to both of these wars.

There are some websites I like that help our armed forces.

Here are a few I like:

More Photos of May's Second Saturday in downtown Bowling Green, Kentucky

 Hi again!

Some photos will be arriving of the Second Saturday Street Fair

I plan to take some photos today. I have so far seen Spiderman, the Balloon Man, Carriage rides, booths, and many people out of the windows downtown at the Pots Place today.

A big taxi just went by too.

In the Studio, Bob has a student plus many visitors today, some wanting to take classes, and some just curious about looking at a real pottery studio.

We hung a sign out in front of the Pots Place today that no longer says "Potter at Work." Bob drew through the word Work and put "Play" which is actually more truthful. He and his students do have a lot of fun.

So... be looking for some photos added here when I am doing things with a familiar computer.

Just added: here is one photo:

A trip to the Mellow Mushroom Restaurant in Bowling Green, Kentucky

Our trip to the Mellow Mushroom in Bowling Green, Kentucky

We went out to the new Mellow Mushroom restaurant near downtown at 1035 Chestnut Street last month and it was so fun. We sat inside and watched the staff open an umbrella outside.

There were many great choices on the menu. We wound up sharing a Mediterranean style pizza and it was great.

One thing I really thought was great. By mistake, our pizza got burned. SO... the manager came to our table and said we were getting another one made, and it was on them. How cool is that??

My daughter especially loved them tossing up the pizza crust.

I'll definitely be back. What a fun place. Here are a couple of photos of the outside and one of the inside:

Will I still be able to access my photos? News from another computer disaster.

Willow trees and water. Photo by James West, westy478 on Flickr.
I am uploading some files from the recovery site BackBlaze today.

I'm glad I didn't request a NEW scan of my new files, because I don't have all that many (yet) on my newer computer. It might have overwritten the files I already saved.

Maybe I will be able to put all my programs back on my computer. I hope so! So glad I backed them up.

But I may not have backed up my photos, at least not all of them. This happened last time too. My new rule about photos will be that I will not just save them on my iPhoto application. Instead, I will save them to my Flickr account.

The link I put for Flickr will lead to my sets. Anyway, putting them on two sites will assure a good backup for them.

You can get a free Flickr account there too, if you have not used this site. If you want more room for your photos, you can upgrade.

I just found out today that Flickr has some good mobile apps that I hope to try out this year, when I get a phone upgrade.

Leave a comment - - have you ever lost your photos on your computer more than once?

May Day is Worker's Day - - and Occupy is planning a General Strike

The Occupy Movement is Celebrating International Worker's Day

Some Occupy groups are calling for a Spring general strike on May Day (May 1st) according to an article on Bloomberg News.

Personally, I'm glad somebody is talking about workers and helping to raise awareness of the growing disparity and inequality that is happening between the haves and the have-nots, the 99 percent and the 1 percent.

I am glad that we have at least some change in our Health Insurance laws, and hope that the Supreme Court will OK even more changes.

And I hope that the perpetrators of the financial collapse that led to many people having to lose their homes can be fined, taken to the cleaners, and forced to pay back as much money as possible that they lost.

Are the banks still too big to fail? Will people have to pay bigger and bigger co-pays on their insurance? Will the minimum wage be raised to a living wage? These are important questions and problems that the Occupy Movement is trying to bring out into the open so people can figure out solutions to them.

I say, Go, Occupy! Have a Great May Day Celebration. You are doing a good deed for the country.
