Five Popular Postings from the Moon and the Willow Tree - plus more.

Well, so much for stopping this blog or combining it with another one.

I just can't bring myself to do that (yet anyway).

I notice that the Moon is almost full. I will have to get outside and take a peek at it tonight. I will also move the Current Moon Phase chart up near the top of this blog. It is fun to look at.

My news: I am coming closer to being able to get the Outdoor Journey site online. I still need some permissions to get everything on there I want. I will keep you posted, awesome readers.

This is really big news for me, because it will help with the problem of Girl Scout camps closing, hopefully, plus point to a better way for Girl Scout troops to get back into the outdoors.

Our Founder, Juliette Low, was big on the outdoors. I believe camping fits right in to the current leadership focus, because it promotes self-reliance. (AND the current leadership focus too...)

I have some popular postings listed next to help me decide what to write about next. I can update the most popular pages for sure.

Here they are:

#1.  The Top 16 Online Sales and Auction Sites - Rated

#2. Civil War Dresses for Sale

#3. Do you make a lot of money with your blog? (more recent)

#4. Free Clipart Sites (for Projects, Etc.)

and

#5. The Wightman Chapel at Scaritt-Bennett (Nashville)

The Ladies of Charity Clothing Sale 2013 is now on - in Nashville

This event is so awesome.

I would advise any ladies who want to spruce up their wardrobe (for a great price) to visit the Ladies of Charity clothing sale in Nashville, TN.

It will be going on for some time yet. Last year it ran for six weeks. AND they continually refresh the racks with new-to-you things too. They even cluster some things in color groupings.

The Ladies of Charity sale is located at 2216 State Street. Their phone number in Yahoo local is 615-327-3453.

I found some great deals here. And much of the clothing is high-end name brand stuff. I have so much fun here. If you are in the area, check it out! Ms. Cheap (the famous columnist in Nashville) gives their sales a thumbs up too.

Here are a couple of photos of this year's event:

I especially love it that the Ladies sort everything by size, and type of clothing too. For instance, you can find ladies' suits all together, blouses, etc. and even formals.

Want to dress nicely for a fraction of new? This is the best place I have found for that, hands down.

Fun at the Nashville Flea Market January 2013

The Nashville Flea Market is held monthly at the State Fairgrounds. I went yesterday.

They have loads of fun stuff to look at - from antiques to new crafts, plus food, baby clothing, barbeque, soap, scarves, perfume, jewelry, handmade birdhouses, and lots more.

I found some cedar shaving bags that smelled great. I plan to give these for Christmas presents.

Here are a couple of photos I took:

The Bookworm - a Nashville bookstore going out of business

Our visit to The Bookworm in Nashville

I was sorry to see that this bookstore was going out of business. We'd been there before, and bought a couple of books.

Now, since the store is going out of business, most books are $2.00, and some new ones are 1/2 off cover price.

So why are they going out of business? One of the owners thinks that e-readers are the reason.

I'm not so sure.

Parnassus Books has recently opened in Nashville too. They have many books on display, a special children's section, and events nearly every day. They are doing a good business.

And Barnes and Noble are selling their own e-reader, as well as books, games, and lattes.

But this store is not the only one I've heard of that is going out of business. I say, at least for older people, bookstores CAN still be a business that makes money. I like books AND ebooks. They both have their place with me.

I enjoy holding and arranging a "regular" book, but also find it fun to look at an e-book occasionally.

What do you think? Leave a comment.

Some more photos from Cheekwood - Scarecrows, Trains, Gardens, and more.

We had a lot of fun last weekend looking at the Scarecrows, the trains, and lots of people at Cheekwood Botanical Garden and Museum of Art.

Many people helped create some great Scarecrow masterpieces. I have picked out a few of them here.
The Bell Witch.

Our trip to Porter Road Butchers in Nashville, Tennessee

Porter Road Butcher Shop is in Nashville, Tennessee.

This is a neat place. They know where their meat, cheese, and other foods come from. They also have a website and are on Twitter.

Yes, the meat is priced high, but it looks great. They have salads that are good deals, like chicken salad (mostly meat) and ham salad (ditto). The ham salad was so full when we bought it that it made a LOT of sandwiches.

They also have some soup stocks that I may buy there next time.

Meat eaters: this place is worth a visit. Here are some photos from our visit:

Construction photos from Green Hills, Nashville, Tennessee November 2011

I took these photos of some interesting junk piles in a construction site near the Donut Den in Nashville, and across from LeQuire Gallery.

I could not resist. Luckily, Rickey just read in the car while I clicked away. I hope you like these too. They are a few from the whole set now on Flickr in 600x800 dpi.

Photos from the Elves' Faire at the Linden Waldorf School

Photos from the Elves' Faire

These are photos from the recent Elves' Faire at the Linden Waldorf School in Nashville, Tennessee.

I posted these on my Facebook page, but wanted to share some of the best ones here too.
Background: I have been wanting to check out this yearly event ever since the first time I saw it on the way to visit my Mom, who lives in Nashville now.

It is a celebration with great crafts, costumes, and fun for kids and adults. They also had food there, plus activities you could buy with tickets.

I liked what I learned about Waldorf schools. There are not many of them, but I hope they grow in number, because they seem to allow students to be more creative and help design their own learning experiences.

Here are some of my favorite pictures, and a link to more. I know I will be back to this Faire again next year. It was fun, and I found some great little gifts here too.

There were some really cute dolls and figures.

I liked these necklaces too.

Here is the line waiting to get in.

A neat costume, and a booth too.

A beautiful decoration.

Getting ready for jousting.

Here are all of the photos posted at Facebook.

They include some photos of the school, other booths and crafts, more people on the grounds, and the surrounding grounds.

There are some fun costumes in there too.

Nashville travels... and The great Frist Birth of Impressionism exhibit!

The Birth of Impressionism exhibit in Nashville at the Frist...

The Frist Center for the Visual Arts Exhibit called The Birth of Impressionism is almost over in Nashville but you still have around 5 more days to go and see it.

The paintings at the exhibit will astound you. Some are HUGE... and you can see neat details like glitter in the paint, and how masterful the paintings really are up close. These are on loan from the Orsay Museum in France. There are so many new things to see here. Whistler's Mother is here, plus lots of beautiful paintings by people you may not have heard of before, along with other famous artists like Manet, Monet and Renoir.

I learned a lot there too, about the history of France, salons, and some of what it took to be a successful artist back then.

The exhibit runs through the 23rd of January. Today is a free day there, but parking can be difficult to find, unless you get there right when it opens.

It is definitely worth going to. You will NOT be disappointed. I was amazed at some of the huge paintings, and some of the smaller ones were meticulously done. They had a taped explanation of the paintings too, all included.

I hope to go again before it closes.

You can see some of the beautiful paintings here:

The Parthenon in Nashville, Tennessee

Here is the Parthenon again. We recently went to Centennial Park in Tennessee for the Earth Day Celebration there (before Earth Day.) The park was named for the Tennessee Centennial and International Exposition in 1897. There is a giant statue of Athena inside plus lots of art.

The Parthenon is really pretty, and worth a look.

A beautiful Mary and Jesus grotto in Nashville

I found this beautiful and peaceful photo today when I was organizing my desktop files.

It is from outside an art exhibition in Nashville I went to this Fall at St. Bernard's Church and School in the Belwood area of Nashville. I love the feeling I get just looking at Mary and Jesus in this lovely grotto setting.

The Tennessee State Fair -the last one ever?

THE END OF THE FAIR?

The Tennessean printed an article yesterday about the probably demise of the Tennessee State Fair in Nashville. The mayor said that the city was going to stop putting it on. There is also talk of selling the whole kit and caboodle. Whaaaa????

The Tennessean Article - no more Fair? That's what the Mayor says.

I saw many families at the Fair yesterday having a LOT of fun. The exhibits were terrific. I know lots of people put many, many hours in getting it ready too.

I think instead of selling the property and giving up, Tennessee should put money into making the Fair even bigger and better. THAT's how you create excitement. I will be definitely following the news about this. I hope Tennesseans fight the end of the Fair!

Free Day at Cheekwood - how fun

I went to Nashville today and got to see Cheekwood. What a fun day. I got to see beautiful plants, statues, pathways, a lovely gift shop, freindly people, and more. I bought an Artist measuring stick, and a beautiful keychain that was on sale.

It was hard to pick a single photo to show Cheekwood, because there were so many great photo opportunities there! What a beautiful place. I can't wait to go back and see the rest of it.

Here are some websites that can tell you more about Cheekwood:

Going to the Grand Ole Opry - Roy Clark

There were so many first class singers and musicians here... but if I had to pick one that really stood out, it would have to be Roy Clark. This was the first time I ever went to the Grand Ole Opry... and I hope not the last. What a fun time!

Digg!

Roy Clark was really great

I thought his hands were still SO fast. He was funny - - so much of his personality shone out. I feel lucky to have seen him.

Digg!

Go, Roy!

Can that man ever play the guitar.

Digg!
