More Photos of May's Second Saturday in downtown Bowling Green, Kentucky

 Hi again!

Here are the rest of the photos from the Second Saturday Street Fair yesterday held at Fountain Square Park in beautiful historic downtown Bowling Green, Kentucky.

Down the street - you can see Tea Squares and 440 Main and more from here.

Looking across the street at Fountain Square.

The horse and carriage rides start from here.

The Potter at Play sign seen from the other side.

Where people came to visit during the Street Fair.

I am hoping my friend Suzie can set up her booth in June. I had some bratwurst from a vendor in the park and it was very good.

Until next time!

Some photos will be arriving of the Second Saturday Street Fair

I plan to take some photos today. I have so far seen Spiderman, the Balloon Man, Carriage rides, booths, and many people out of the windows downtown at the Pots Place today.

A big taxi just went by too.

In the Studio, Bob has a student plus many visitors today, some wanting to take classes, and some just curious about looking at a real pottery studio.

We hung a sign out in front of the Pots Place today that no longer says "Potter at Work." Bob drew through the word Work and put "Play" which is actually more truthful. He and his students do have a lot of fun.

So... be looking for some photos added here when I am doing things with a familiar computer.

Just added: here is one photo:

See more photos here.

It has been a great day here in downtown Bowling Green Kentucky.

A trip to the Mellow Mushroom Restaurant in Bowling Green, Kentucky

Our trip to the Mellow Mushroom in Bowling Green, Kentucky

We went out to the new Mellow Mushroom restaurant near downtown at 1035 Chestnut Street last month and it was so fun. We sat inside and watched the staff open an umbrella outside.

There were many great choices on the menu. We wound up sharing a Mediterranean style pizza and it was great.

One thing I really thought was great. By mistake, our pizza got burned. SO... the manager came to our table and said we were getting another one made, and it was on them. How cool is that??

My daughter especially loved them tossing up the pizza crust.

I'll definitely be back. What a fun place. Here are a couple of photos of the outside and one of the inside:

Will I still be able to access my photos? News from another computer disaster.

Willow trees and water. Photo by James West, westy478 on Flickr.
I am uploading some files from the recovery site BackBlaze today.

I'm glad I didn't request a NEW scan of my new files, because I don't have all that many (yet) on my newer computer. It might have overwritten the files I already saved.

Maybe I will be able to put all my programs back on my computer. I hope so! So glad I backed them up.

But I may not have backed up my photos, at least not all of them. This happened last time too. My new rule about photos will be that I will not just save them on my iPhoto application. Instead, I will save them to my Flickr account.

The link I put for Flickr will lead to my sets. Anyway, putting them on two sites will assure a good backup for them.

You can get a free Flickr account there too, if you have not used this site. If you want more room for your photos, you can upgrade.

I just found out today that Flickr has some good mobile apps that I hope to try out this year, when I get a phone upgrade.

Leave a comment - - have you ever lost your photos on your computer more than once?

May Day is Worker's Day - - and Occupy is planning a General Strike

The Occupy Movement is Celebrating International Worker's Day
The original photo of this is by Pinkyracer on Flickr.

Some Occupy groups are calling for a Spring general strike on May Day (May 1st) according to an article on Bloomberg News.

Personally, I'm glad somebody is talking about workers and helping to raise awareness of the growing disparity and inequality that is happening between the haves and the have-nots, the 99 percent and the 1 percent.

I am glad that we have at least some change in our Health Insurance laws, and hope that the Supreme Court will OK even more changes.

And I hope that the perpetrators of the financial collapse that led to many people having to lose their homes can be fined, taken to the cleaners, and forced to pay back as much money as possible that they lost.

Are the banks still too big to fail? Will people have to pay bigger and bigger co-pays on their insurance? Will the minimum wage be raised to a living wage? These are important questions and problems that the Occupy Movement is trying to bring out into the open so people can figure out solutions to them.

I say, Go, Occupy! Have a Great May Day Celebration. You are doing a good deed for the country.

Hanging out at the Pots Place and Fountain Square Park - April 2012

I hang out at the Pots Place often. I also love to take photos.

This day Bob was working on some face pots in the Pots Place studio.

I also went outside and took pictures of some buildings and cars around Fountain Square Park.

Here are  few photos from that day:

My first visit to Bernheim Arboretum And Research Forest in Kentucky

My first visit to Bernheim Woods in Clermont, Kentucky - real name: Bernheim Arboretum And Research Forest

This place is beautiful, and so large. It must have cost millions to do what is already done. There are many sturdy benches, trailheads for lots of trails, plantings, gorgeous plants with I.D. tags, and so much more. I loved the gift shop, too.

I bought a very small stone owl and some postcards. I hope I can go back here again someday. It's a great place. We just drove around some, and hiked a very little bit, and explored the gift shop and around it.

One of the many paths here.

Rickey and a cool hand sculpture.

It was a beautiful day, and the woods were very green.

Hanging out at the Labold and Sons Salvage in Bowling Green, Kentucky

I finally made it to Labold and Sons Salvage in Bowling Green Kentucky. It is at the site of Spot Cash, which I had just started shopping at last year. They had some great socks there that Rickey liked. I enjoyed talking to the proprietor, who had some stories about years of working at the location.

I have been so curious to see this store for ages. I have heard only good things about it.

I took pictures outside the store. I had a lot of fun looking at all the items displayed there. I had to look slowly because each display is packed with things to look at.

They had all kinds of treasures there. Many were quaint and retro. I saw a wooden doll that looked like a sister to one my grandmother gave me once. They had lots of bicycles, rust and all. They had wicker chairs, scarves, pins, and some great pillow purses too.

I went downstairs too to see what was there. They had baskets, clothing, toys, more bikes, furniture, and birdcages, among many other items.

What I liked the most was the jewelry. I told myself I would come back with retro treasures packed in boxes to trade in two weeks.

Wish me luck! I will go through things and I know I can find some things to trade. I have always liked retro collectibles, so this will be fun.

Now, here are a few photos.
Open! More neat stuff is inside.

Love this street. The Pots Place is in the next block.

Cute table! It would look good in a display window...

You can find more photos of Labold and Sons Salvage here on Facebook.

It's such a beautiful day. Here are some places to visit in Bowling Green, Kentucky.

Looking for the Events Calendar for this week? Here it is:
Events this week April 2-9

Catalpa in bloom by lowjumpingfrog on Flickr.
 What a beautiful day...

Usually on days that are nice in the Spring here in the Bowling Green Kentucky area, nice weather means Get Your Lawn Done Again Before the Rain.

But maybe we will be lucky this week.

Jackson's Orchard is open. What a fun place. Some other great spots to visit right now are Lost River Cave, Fountain Square Park (and shops), Chaney's Dairy Barn, Three Springs Park (now Basil Griffin Park) , the Historic RailPark and Train Museum, Riverview at Hobson Grove, Beech Bend Park and Raceway, the National Corvette Museum, the Eloise B. Houchens Center, and the Kentucky Museum (on WKU's campus), to name just a few places.

Leon Vincent at Artistic Soul Studio wants you to know that they have the Best Little Movie Poster Shop in town, and are located at 1014 East 10th Avenue. They are open Thursday and Friday from 1-5, and Saturdays from Noon -4.  Phone 270-991-0614.

A fun find at a thrift store today - a Pushins keychain!

I found the neatest keychain today.

I bought a "grab bag" because I could see see-through plastic playing cards in it. I received a small change purse (just like one I use, only newer), a fake flower lei, some key holders, some other miscellany, AND something totally cool - a retro Pushins keychain.

Pushins was a popular department store in Bowling Green. I tried looking up some photos of it online, but could not find any. Maybe later.

It is two-sided, and has a Higgins Slacks ad on the back. How fun is that!

Here are photos from my find:

I am so excited about my find. I didn't even see it in the bag when I bought it!

So fun.

If you ever shopped at Pushins or know more about it, leave a comment.

FYI: Rescue your Picnik Files from their site

PICNIK WEBSITE ANNOUNCEMENT

FYI: You may be leaving your Picnik photos and art in the rain unless you pack your photo groceries up right away.

i.e.: Do you use the Picnik editing site? If you do, you may have photo or art files there.

Here is that site:
http://www.picnik.com.

Here is a heads up. Picnik is switching over to Google+. So, if you do not download your files by April 19th (try the 18th to be safe...) you may lose your photos you have stored here.

I just had one (whew!). But if you have used it in the past, you need to log in and copy these files to your computer desktop ASAP. They make it easy, luckily, and have a "Takeout Menu" that is easy to do once you accept the new terms. Then just download your files.

You will thank me. Something similar happened to some of my files last year that were stored on Delicious. They sent an email, but I didn't get it somehow. Then I lost my files. There was no way to get them back.

So if you are wondering, just go and check just in case.

As an added bonus, the Picnik site is allowing everyone online to use their premium service until the deadline too. I may try it, but of course will save any edited photos to my desktop at the end of the tryout, on the same day.

All for now,
Betsyanne

PS I enjoyed Picnik when I used it. But I do wish websites that are leaving would keep their customers' art or files longer just in case they don't get the official email. Here is hoping this posting will help somebody keep their files.

PPS Yup, "The Ants have Invaded..." The site says this when you go there. Pretty apropos.

Getting ready for summer! What a great Spring so far...

My biggest Fairy Door at the Pots Place.
Spring has arrived with a vengeance!

All of a sudden my yard here in South Central Kentucky was overgrown! But I found a great lawn person to come over and help out today.

He was very nice. I was impressed that he came over the same day I called.

Now to get my mowers ready for the summer.

And of course I will want to grow some more tomatoes. Maybe this will be the year I will actually can some veggies.

My wildlife sees some activity from my friendly mole (more rooms added to his warren) but I haven't seen my usual bunnies. 1-2 new squirrels have taken up residence in the willow tree. AND there are many birds visiting this year.

Also: is it just my imagination or have the bugs started being active pretty early?

I head downtown to the Pots Place tomorrow. I might bring my computer and catch up on work.

Oh! Check above for this week's activities around town in Bowing Green Kentucky too. Just click on the  page button at the top of this blog labeled "Bowling Green Kentucky Events Page" with date. It is right under the description of this blog.

Leave a comment. Are you excited about summer too?

Ebay, I'm trying you out again. Also: Auctiva, and the Dutchess of York.

Are you on Ebay? I am now back there. I have so many things to sell. I want to pare down my collections again too.

So now I am going to try to sell there at Ebay again. I might even get a store later on again. I used to have one, and liked it.

Here is my Auctiva Store.

It lists my Ebay items. I put the first one on there today. It is a cassette tapebook by Sarah the Dutchess of York. I listened to this one myself and really liked it.

I must admit, I had a bad attitude towards her after seeing her infamous photos inthe tabloids. The way she explains it in the tapebook makes all kinds of sense. I really like her now. And she has some very interesting things to say about the "powers behind the throne" that really got me thinking.

About Auctiva: I use Auctiva to help me list items. It also serves as a great place to list items that are on Ebay. It is all automatic. Auctiva also helps me list with lots of photos if I want. I love photos, because you can see more views of what is for sale.

I also changed my settings in Ebay to allow me to post on Facebook when I list. Now to find an automatic way to list with Twitter too.

Last of all, please leave a comment if you are also on Ebay or sell somewhere else. I would love to visit your store or shop.

Organizing, Nashville, storms and tornadoes, Bodacious Books, and Cheekwood

Hi everyone!

I am catching up and organizing today, as usual. I get inspiration from reading others' postings on Facebook and checking my mail and sites today.

Our Latest Nashville trip
Yesterday, Rickey and I visited Nashville and went to Cheekwood for a beautiful Wild West exhibit called Visions of the American West. Though I could not take pictures of the paintings and exhibits, I did get some shots of the outside activities and flowers.

Here is one of those:

And here are more photos.

Bodacious Books is Moving
Also, we visited Bodacious Books in Nashville, which is having a sale to get ready to move down the street to a new location soon.

A great lunch
Lunch was outside at the Pineapple Room at Cheekwood, which was really fun, because the weather was great, and the food delicious.

The Weather
We here in Kentucky have had some tornadoes all around the state. We here in Bowling Green missed having much damage, luckily, but the news is carrying pictures and stories from Kentucky and other states now. My heart goes out to the victims and their families.

This is only the beginning of the Spring storm season here. I have my fingers crossed.

Here are some more photo and news links of these and other places and events that I posted on Facebook:

A fun day at Cheekwood

ConCave is this weekend. It's a fun science fiction convention.

The ConCave science fiction relaxacon convention is this weekend.
The ConCave pool area.

You can find out more about it on their website here:
ConCave website

and also on their Facebook page here:
ConCave Facebook page.

Examiner.com listed ConCave as in the Top Gaming, Horror, Comic, Toy, and Paranormal Conventions to attend.  ConCave does include gaming, and some comics are sold in the Huxster area (new this year - - rooms by the pool area.)

The convention is now held at the Best Western Motor Inn in Bowling Green Kentucky after many years in other Kentucky locations.

I am in the Art Show for the second year. I have a Vampire Mug, a Fairy Door, and some neat vampire nut heads showing this year. Come see all the neat art at the Art Show too. There are usually many different kinds of art, such as paintings, prints, glassware, and lots more.

I took some pictures of other ConCave conventions. You can see them here:

Remembering Mom...

I have been remembering my Mom more this week, as I did last week.

Helen and Mom at the Pots Place

But I have not been writing about it (yet...)

Some things I remember about her were:

Her rolling off the couch onto the floor laughing at a funny Honeymooners TV episode... of course, we kids had to laugh with her! It's a good feeling to laugh so hard your sides ache.

Sharing coffee sometimes in the morning at her house... she had her coffee black, and I added milk and sweetener... we would talk over our plans for the day, and the week. It was a very relaxing and fun time for me.

Some things she said, like "remember the happy times..." when we talked about memories.

How she made homemade macaroni and cheese with a cracker crust... everyone's favorite! I think I will try that one of these days soon.

Singing in the car... her and we girls would sing songs and have the windows open sometimes when we were traveling to see relatives. It was fun to see the reactions of the people in nearby cars. Most smiled at us.

And how she made Christmas cookies and let us help her when we were little. My favorite cookies were the vanilla flavored, vanilla frosted cookies AND the fruit cookies with multi-colored fruit candy in them. Yum.

I am scanning photos again this week and should have a bunch linked to her sites eventually and on my Facebook page too.

There are many great memories I have of my Mom. I knew I could not have her with me forever... she was a beautiful person, an artist, and a friend.

I am starting some remembrance pages for my Mom, Mary Ellen Hooper Hirst, and finding out some stories about her I never would have known without them.

I miss you, Mom! I am listing her remembrance pages after this posting.

Your daughter
Betsy
