Helen and Mom at the Pots Place |
But I have not been writing about it (yet...)
Some things I remember about her were:
Her rolling off the couch onto the floor laughing at a funny Honeymooners TV episode... of course, we kids had to laugh with her! It's a good feeling to laugh so hard your sides ache.
Sharing coffee sometimes in the morning at her house... she had her coffee black, and I added milk and sweetener... we would talk over our plans for the day, and the week. It was a very relaxing and fun time for me.
Some things she said, like "remember the happy times..." when we talked about memories.
How she made homemade macaroni and cheese with a cracker crust... everyone's favorite! I think I will try that one of these days soon.
Singing in the car... her and we girls would sing songs and have the windows open sometimes when we were traveling to see relatives. It was fun to see the reactions of the people in nearby cars. Most smiled at us.
And how she made Christmas cookies and let us help her when we were little. My favorite cookies were the vanilla flavored, vanilla frosted cookies AND the fruit cookies with multi-colored fruit candy in them. Yum.
I am scanning photos again this week and should have a bunch linked to her sites eventually and on my Facebook page too.
There are many great memories I have of my Mom. I knew I could not have her with me forever... she was a beautiful person, an artist, and a friend.
I am starting some remembrance pages for my Mom, Mary Ellen Hooper Hirst, and finding out some stories about her I never would have known without them.
I miss you, Mom! I am listing her remembrance pages after this posting.
