The Artistic Soul Studio, John Carpenter posters, and a future Film Festival!

I recently visited the new poster store, the Artistic Soul Studio.

It is located at 1014 E. 11th Street (and yes, you can park in front of the garage.)

Inside there are some great John Carpenter movie posters as part of the World Premiere John Carpenter Movie Poster Art Exhibit.

Some of the John Carpenter movie posters are for sale, and some are not.

I can remember when the Speculative Fiction Society at Western put on the very first John Carpenter Film Festival.

Bowling Green should do that again. John Carpenter is very famous and I think the event would be fabulous and fun.

We could have it at the Capitol Arts building or even SKyPAC. Do you agree? Let me know with a comment below.

Anyway, the tour of this cute gallery was fun. They have some great posters of all kinds there.

Democratic Headquarters, Bowling Green, Kentucky

These photos are from a couple of weeks ago.

But we were pleased to see the Democratic Party Headquarters was up and running when we visited. It is located in the Hobby Lobby parking lot on Scottsville Road.

The back room has lots of space, and they have signs and bumper stickers to give out too, plus lots of information.

I'm sure there is lots more set up there today. It's definitely worth a visit.

The Frist Museum and the Carrie Mae Weems exhibit

 It is always an instructive trip to the Frist in Nashville. I love seeing new exhibits.

The latest visit to the Frist included the the Carrie Mae Weems art show. She interweaves the past and present into her presentation about slavery, meaning, reality, and shows how the past influences the present, not always in a good way.

I was impressed with how varied her exhibit was, and how she had found so many different photos and videos and woven them together into a meaningful whole. I felt as if she wished she could change the most hurtful parts of history, but since she couldn't, she would show shadows of what could have been.

Some of the exhibit pieces that were most meaningful to me were the portraits of famous black singers and entertainers - shown intensely blurred for their unfair regression into unimportance as time goes by.

Her travel pictures were very good, but the pictures that stay in my mind most are the dehumanizing ones and the ones of a sad African princess. How could people be so terrible to their brothers and sisters? I felt helpless and sad seeing some of the photos and paintings at this exhibit.

The scenes and memories here were of things that could not be changed, empty places, and echoes of a world full of insane people that seemed to enjoy the destruction of people, places, and futures.

The Carrie Mae Weems exhibit started a conversation afterwards about injustice and memory. I would call this exhibit instructive. I would not call it cheery, but I think that is exactly what the artist had in mind.

Walking in the Neighborhood... some surprises!

I went walking today in the Parkland Gardens neighborhood.

I like my neighborhood. It has many different kinds of houses in it, from the manicured to the rather scary. And across the street from Memphis Junction Road, there is a beautiful farm, complete with cows.

It is peaceful here and has lots of farm sounds, mostly mooing ones.

One house was already decorated for Halloween. I thought it was cute.

I took some photos today and will post them here. On the way home, someone drew up next to me in a car. She asked me if I were taking photos of houses for sale. I said no, because I was taking photos of lots of different things, the streets, the cows at the farm, AND some houses.

I did see one house for sale, and it looks very pretty.

We had a lot of fun last weekend looking at the Scarecrows, the trains, and lots of people at Cheekwood Botanical Garden and Museum of Art.

Many people helped create some great Scarecrow masterpieces. I have picked out a few of them here.

The Awesome Ladies of Charity Consignment Sale

Oh, is this ever an awesome sale.

It is in Nashville, which is not far from here, and really worth it to go to.

There is clothing, belts, hats, suits, blouses, shirts, dresses, even formal wear... it goes on and on. AND the sizes are generally in the right place, and labeled.

There are many famous labels, and really neat fashionable stuff.

I love this sale.

You can take 10 things at once to try on.

This lot was also full, and people were waiting for a space.

Next time I will try to get some inside photos. We may go tomorrow too. What a fun sale - - it's the best around.

I have signed up for SO many blogs. Some are good for my online businesses, and some I just like because they are fun reading.

There are some blogs that I really love, but I definitely like ALL the blogs I read.

Here are just a few of my favorites, in case you are looking for a neat blog to read.

The Truthout Blog is a grownup blog for thinkers, and features stories about many current events, and the stories behind them. Truthout shows other angles and thoughtful commentary on today's news.

The Ask Leo newsletter blog/site has much information about computers, questions from readers, and great how-to advice. It is written by Leo Notenboom. I find many unusual questions and answers here, most on the PC platform.

Forgotten Old Photos - this blog is pure heaven for people who love to see or collect old postcards. It is so much fun to explore on this site, and read all the postings. (When I can!) Sometimes she finds out who the photos belong to, other and most times, not.

Problogger features stories for people who write blogs online. They have a great book out, and I have it too. Problogger helps bloggers figure out what they want to accomplish, and helps to do that. Bloggers who want to make money blogging can get many ideas from this blog.

What's a Girl to Do? Tinky writes about her life. This issue is all about her trip to New York to sell some art treasures from India.

Hear the Raven's Call - Raven writes about her life, healing, and sharing. Her blog is a place for positive thoughts and for inspiration. Her blog won the Toast of Music City award in 2012 for Best Blog and Best Visual Artist.

Have you signed up to get any blogs in your Inbox? It's easy to do. Most blogs have a signup place on the side where you can put your email address. From then on you get a copy of their blog and a link to go read it online whenever they publish.

Farmer's Market Update - #1, #2, and #3 were fun!

Bowling Green now has three Farmer's Markets, and some people are talking about adding one next year MAYBE near Fountain Square, or a part of one already here. We shall see.

 I like the many Farmer's Markets here in Bowling Green.  I found eggs, of course vegetables, new meat suppliers, a basketmaker, another artist, garlic, many mum flower sellers (the flowers, not the people), and also some great homemade salsa, which I love to have with my veggies and eggs.

I think the prices varied a lot. Which would be OK if I just asked prices all around and then got the most reasonable veggie.

But when I ask a price, it's hard for me to be rude and walk away when the price is high. I usually just buy whatever it is, and then learn my lesson if the price is too high. I did that again yesterday.

But eventually I know I will change that, and find my favorite vendors.

For example, some eggs cost $3.00. Others cost $5.00. And they were both natural and good. So next time I will pick the $3.00 ones, (Or the $2.50 ones) if I haven't already bought some at Trader Joe's in Nashville.

We bought some good veggies. After that, we were hungry, so we ate some hot dogs at Rapid Rick's, who on Scottsville Road. The sausage and hot dogs were delicious.

There were some surprises at the Farmer's Markets.

Some vendors joked around ( I love that!) and I found some chestnuts to roast and also a beautiful little multicolored squash to cook.

Everyone was offering mums, many from truck beds. There were good smells coming from some other booths, which I haven't tried (yet!)

These pretty mums are also from the Wikipedia Commons site.

We looked for Laura Bain-Selbo, a potter at the SKY Farmer's Market, but she had come there and then left. Darn! It was raining earlier, but nice when we went by.

I noticed birdhouses, corn, huge sweet potatoes, and heritage tomatoes, plus peas just shelled by one very nice vendor. Also, the tomatoes at many stands were huge. I think I'll cook the peas today.

And here is another surprise: Rapid Rick said that he had to offer sauerkraut from packages he had in his cooler. It's Kentucky State law.

Which Rickey thought was funny, because sauerkraut is its own natural preservative, because it is made like pickles.

All in all, it was a fun trip. Even though I got mustard on my pants. :-)

Oh! Big news! The Community Farmer's Market hopes to move into the Old Mall this year and be year-round. I think that's great. I will go check on them later.

Pinterest is a very fun site. It is free to join too. I have a Pinterest account and many Boards too. A Board is just a list of photos or pictures from sites that link to the original Pin, or interesting page.

You can start your own Pinterest boards. It is so easy.

Just go to Pinterest, register, then start Boards to "pin" interesting sites on. You can save recipes, animal links, fashion Pins, and much more.

For an example (and you don't have to use the ones I made, only if you want to...) Just saying hi - - it is raining here in Bowling Green, Kentucky

I knew the rain was coming, and it is finally here today. I'm very glad the grass is mowed!

This posting should be called, Projects in Bowling Green Kentucky, Getting organized for September 2012, throwing away clutter, labeling boxes, pricing and organizing boxes and books, book pricing, and looking for things you know you will never find. :-)

The little house and trees in the back yard - another project!

Today I got some things done, and cooked for the first time in awhile. I look forward to getting back to posting on all my blogs and sites again.

My jobs here today and continuing include pricing and organizing of books, clearing out of boxes, looking for long-lost paper items, and generally getting rid of much stuff that I don't use anymore.

I would love to have an attic or extra room! But this is working for now.

I lightened it up a tad...

The Flylady at the Flylady site has a saying, "You can't organize clutter." This is so true.

If I was a lot less cluttered right now in my house it would be SO much easier not to have to look through every packing box for something I didn't think I would ever need.

I plan to label all boxes with whatever is left so it will be easy to find the year and subject next time. So this is teaching me a good lesson. Be organized! And don't store clutter.

What I did not bring for my trip - and what would YOU suggest?

Away from the computer...

It's a whole different experience using a tablet - so please bear with me for this posting today.

Today it's all about Things I would bring next time.

I have a Master List of packing to bring even for a short weekend trip. Where is it? I don't know.

But I did notice several things I WOULD have brought on today's trip had I made another list.

Here they are:

1. ALL the junk mail and "begging letters",

2. A plastic water jug

3. Shampoo (just in case)

4. A pool coverup (I will need to purchase this.)

5. My good stationery (luckily, I brought some copy paper)

6. #10 envelopes (bought some)

7. Knowledge of how to upload photos to an iPad,

8. Napkins

9. Some nighttime eye covers

10. A printer that somehow hooked up to an iPad

11. A What to Pack list.

The American Idol Tryouts in Bowling Green, Kentucky

I heard these were such fun to watch and listen to.

And it happened today in Fountain Square Park! Many people lined up to watch. I caught a few pictures of the line as I came in to the Pots Place today.

There was a LOT of talent! I also took a closeup of a singer trying out for the judges.

The Once Upon a Time Miniatures Show and Display at the Green Hills Library in Nashville

I didn't know this was here when we went into the Green Hills library yesterday, but the Once Upon a Time miniatures display from at least two local Nashville clubs was outstanding.

These displays were so professionally done, and must have taken some time to do too. I loved each one. I have some photos to share here, and the mini-poster of the event too.

I was not able to photograph all of the exhibits... some photos came out, and others didn't, but all of the dioramas were beautiful. My photos don't do them justice, they were great close up. Everything was so detailed and small.

I remember making shadow boxes when I was young. But these are truly a step above and are really beautiful!
