A really pretty horse head in Kentucky

This is a really pretty horse at a friend's farm. I took this earlier in the year. I have some more photos I want to post of this visit, including some of the new foal. This is its mother.

Before I do that, I will be posting some photos of the Greek Festival in Nashville last weekend.

This week, time is going faster than usual. I think I'll enjoy it when time slows down again (if ever!)

All for now! Have a great week.

My pottery Fairy Doors

Today I make some cards for my new Fairy Doors, explaining how to use them. Then I'll go and put them around one of the door handles. They go against a bookshelf or a wall. The lintel in front stops them from falling forward. The back is flat. I will probably need to make some more for presents. Also I made some tiny sizes too. They take awhile to make, but I like them. Each one is different. I am thinking of selling them online too.   I like making them because they are handbuilt, and use stain for glaze, which keeps the markings from being filled in.

Sink Adventures!

Psssst.... hey..... know a good plumber?

I tried to fix our sink today. I got out the Fix Anything book and looked there, too. I took apart each side of our double-sided sink and cleaned out every pipe I could get to. But no, it was not to be. It needed three professional roto-rooter treatments to get out a clog inside the pipe - further than I went.

I am so happy it is fixed now. The water goes down gurgly great. Makes my day. Plus, I learned how to take the pipes apart, which may come in very handy someday. You never know.

Oh - and the plumber did a good job. They even came right over the same day. It was Millard Martin Services. You can call them at 843-1981. Thanks, Millard Martin Services.

Henri in Bowling Green

I have always liked this mural.

Now it is being covered up to make room for a bank on the corner in downtown Bowling Green.

I went downtown to see if I could get some photos of it about a week ago. You can still see Henri and the Water Tower plus a lot of the mural.

Here are my photos:

Grand Opening of the Aviation Heritage Park with photos!

Here are photos from today's Grand Opening of the Aviation Heritage Park in Bowling Green, Kentucky.

VIP's galore attended - Congressman Brett Guthrie, State Representative Jody Richards, Bowling Green Mayor Elaine Walker, WKU President Gary Ransdell, AHP President Dan Cherry, Mig Pilot Nguyen Hong My, Master of Ceremonies Larry Bailey, Chamber of Commerce Chairman Todd Davis, and many more.

The audience heard speeches and stories about the new plane which is shown in the photos and the story behind the book "My Enemy, My Friend," by General Dan Cherry of Bowling Green. I thought Nguyen Hong My's speech was the best by far, but General Cherry's speech was close behind at second place.

Check below the photos for more websites and links.

See the entire photo set at Flickr.

And read more about this story:

Listing in the Rain

My New Weekly Newsletter
and Ebay Listings
From The Garden Spot
Thursday, 4-3-08

Hi, all!

I wanted to "get posting" today here on my blog, and I'm also posting items for sale on Ebay, too. It's a quiet kind of day... and very peaceful.

My Ebay Items
I have some Stephen King and Peter Straub books, Bob Brigl pottery, a vintage look tin box, a PowerNotes teaching CD, and a Power English cassette training system for sale on Ebay this week.

You can go to see my Ebay listings here.

Here at The Garden Spot in Bowling Green, Kentucky, it's raining - a lot. The pond across the street is filled up all the way, and water is streaming into the cave drain from all the neighbor's houses up and down the street.
My Business News

This week, I bit the bullet and bought a copy of Microsoft Word. I got Office 98, which works terrific on my OS 10.2 system.

Now I can access the great artwork available on the Microsoft site. Will I be able to download it successfully on my Mac? I hope so, because the clip art there is great, and there is a lot of it.

You can check out the Microsoft clip art area here.

My To-Do List - or: What Happened to my Seedlings...

Some of my new seedlings disappeared this week. I couldn't figure out why. Then I looked a bit closer and saw some little tiny bugs in the soil where the little seedlings used to be.

I still have much to learn about gardening, and even more about starting my own plants.

Looking closely at soil before and after planting is one thing I have learned to do next time.

Also, I think next time I will plant outside in a mini-greenhouse (so they get more sun than the window) OR use storebought soil (so they don't have bugs in the soil that like to eat seedlings).

Well - back to work.

Santa Visits Bowling Green, Kentucky (early)

HO HO HO! I just love this time of year. My husband says that Santa Claus always stays at the hotel he works at this time of year. He carves him a special ornament every year. Last year, it was a Santa carved out of wood. His picture is in the Daily News today, along with a picture (see below the bigger picture if you are going there).

At the beautiful downtown Fountain Square Park here in Bowling Green, Kentucky, the trees are decorated with little white lights. It looks delightful. I still have presents to buy - - but this year I have an actual list! Nobody will wind up with only a big paper clip this year (long story...) Instead, it will be another super-cheap but hopefully cool gift from me. Probably a book, because I sell them and have a lot to choose from. I have saved a lot this year buying presents ahead of time at thrift shops and dollar places.

I love saving money so much that I want to start a new website. It will be called The Save Money Site. I can't wait to put tips on there. I think it will be a fun project. More about this later.

Lost River Cave's Civil War Reenactment

[Fort Burnham, Va. Encampment and earthworks].

I went to the Lost River Cave Civil War Reenactment yesterday. Boy, did I ever jump when the cannons went off!

This photo and the title are from the American Memory government archives at:

http://memory.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/D?cwar:12:./temp/~ammem_pwLg:T17:

A press release about it:
http://kentucky.gov/Newsroom/travel/lostrivercavereenactment.htm

Here is a slideshow about the cave:
http://www.bgdailynews.com/multimedia2/27lostriver20070406/index.html

It was great. There were women there in hoop skirts, metal workers, tents set up (much like the photo), and troops marching and shooting rifles.

I'm glad I dragged Rickey there. It was fun. AND the gift shop is great. Do you know that there is a sluice set up outside where you can "pan" for precious stones? Also, a bridge has been set up that spans the valley.

They have done a GREAT job improving Lost River Cave. Next time I hope to take the boat ride and see the butterflies, too.

Wow - it's good to be back.

It is good to be back here on my blog. I want to try to post here more often.

Hi to everyone subscribing to this blog and all my first-time readers.

You will notice a white squirrel above on the right side of the picture, next to the tree. This is the FIRST time I've been able to get one on film.

The story is, there were experiments at Western Kentucky University involving squirrels. A couple either got loose or were set free by the scientists there.

Most of the time, you can see these on University Hill. I was so glad to see one at my Mom's house.

Right now, I'm writing a book about my teaching experiences. I am having a fun time doing it. I figure it will help others bypass my mistakes.

Also, I have a garden this year AND I am learning how to F.L.Y. from Flylady.com, the best organizer ever. Here site is at http://www.flylady.com. Check it out! You may be the most organized person ever, but you may find some hints there to help anyhow.

More later - and I plan to be here much more regularly now -- sharing websites, what I'm doing, and lots more.

I would love to hear your comments and what you are doing this summer as well. Just click on "comments" below here or on any of my postings.

A HINT FOR POSTING YOUR COMMENTS:

When you post your comment, the blogger form will prompt you for your name and password. If you hit "anonymous" you won't have to go through all that and this will save you a LOT of time.

All for now -- and thanks!

Ceres in the Park

Here's one of the four statues that represent different Nature Goddesses in Fountain Square Park, Bowling Green, Kentucky. I like the plants in front of Ceres.

According to the Roanoke.edu site, Ceres was a foreign deity adopted by Rome. She became the goddess of the ground, crops, and grain. Her name was given to an asteroid - the first discovered. Demeter is the Greek name for this goddess.

Some people say that she represents the powerful bond between mother and daughter.

Waiting for summer...

In Bowling Green, summer looks like this downtown. The water is tinted blue. There used to be koi in it - I hope they put them back in this year, along with the floating lotus.

It really felt like summer today outside - but it really isn't summer here in Bowling Green until they turn on the Fountain Square Fountain's water.

I can imagine myself back in time when I'm in this park, but only when they don't pipe in music. An old friend stopped by across from the park last week. Perhaps he will come back in a month or so.

I get to help a friend tomorrow - but I don't know how it will go yet. I have a backup plan, but who knows if I will get to use it. I have my fingers crossed. Can't wait until I am done with work tomorrow, for sure good buddy, stamp stamp, no denial. I think I'm regressing.

Rickey and I got a haircut at Mr. Kirby's

Mr. Kirby does a great job. I really like my hair done here, too. It felt strange to actually have a barber do my hair at first, but he was so good I got over that really quick.

I got some pictures of the cat, who belongs to his son, but the photos erased themselves on my computer. Really! I will have to try again harder and much more carefully next time.
