Some of Nashville's Great Bookstores

I’ve been going to two of Nashville’s bookstores a lot lately. I didn’t even know they were there until the last month. I was so happy to find both of them.

The First Great Bookstore
This one is called Rhino Books. It has two locations. One is at 4918 Charlotte Pike and the other is on Granny White Pike. These stores have an old-fashioned feel, with lots of attention if you want it, and not as much if you don’t. The people who run them are all super-friendly and interesting. They will help you find whatever you are looking for.

In other words, if they have it, they will find it for you. You can find antique hardcovers, plus new looking paperbacks there too. It’s just fun browsing there, plus you can bring books to sell there, too if you want to. This store has been open a long time. Their website is here:

The Second Great Bookstore
This store is more like a chain – because it really is. It is McKay’s Used Books. They don’t only sell books here - - they sell CD’s, books on tape, and videos, too. In fact, they have HUGE aisles full of everything. It’s hard to see it all in one visit. You can sell your books here, too, but don’t expect to get a lot for them.

But if you have books you don’t want to sell online, here’s a good backup place to bring them. Especially if they aren’t your favorites. I do love this store because you can find books here for GREAT prices. I can’t wait to go back, and I’ve already been there twice. They are located on 5708 Charlotte Pike. Here is their website:

Today... a great day!

photos by blondieb38@morguefile.com

Today we went to Townsend Visitor's Center, Laurel Creek Road to Cades Cove, took the motor tour and toured around the Visitor's Center. We also went up Little River Road to Sugarland Visitor's Center, and then went to Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge. We also got to see Sevierville and Maryville.

We ate at the largest buffet in the U.S., too, and got some books and information about tomorrow's trip to Cherokee and maybe Newfound Gap, along with Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg again.

Photos? Well... I found some online, though my photos will be uploaded after I take mucho stuff off of my hard drive and leave room for them.

The national park was AWESOME. They have old houses and fields with grazing deer and horses to photograph. Some were pretty close to the cars. Two people I noticed brought huge long lenses and stands and went out to the fields to photograph all the deer, who weren't scared at all of anyone.

We didn't see any bears, though. Darn.

Mountain driving!

Here is a photo of driving today. We went a lot of places. I took so many pictures that they don't even fit on my IPhoto program, which I must admit has BEAUCOUP pictures already on it. Luckily, I brought along my stand-alone CD writer. After tomorrow, I'll try to offload some photos on to the CD's I brought with me.

Ozone Falls path and trees

Here are some more photos of the path to Ozone Falls plus some of the trees there. It was a beautiful, clear day. You can see the very top of the falls in a couple of these photos.

Ozone Falls trees and path

I found some beautiful trees on the path to Ozone Falls, plus some beautiful lichen and rocks. You can also see Rickey here checking out the sign before we walk in to see the dropoff.

Day Two - - so many places!!

Today Rickey and I visited Ozone Falls, the Wats Bar Dam, Fort Loudon, the Sequoia Museum, and The Tanasie Cherokee Monument. We went on to Knoxville and saw the hugest Target store I've ever seen, and a GREAT natural food store called EarthFare. Tennessee is SO beautiful!

What a day!

Here are some photos from today in Tennessee.

I have to say that Fort Loudon was the most spectacular of anywhere. They researched the fort and it has been rebuilt just like is used to be. The Fort Visitor's center has a free movie, paintings, and reproductions of early American toys, games, and more. But the fort itself is something to see. It was so cold there my fingers froze up and it became difficult to take pictures. But I'm so glad I went.

Cookville, Tennessee

I am impressed with downtown Cookville, Tennessee. There are a lot of really unique stores there plus a new Indian restaurant too. I really wouldn't mind living here.

The pictures show the side and front of a great store I found there called New Century Books and Goods. They have new and used books there, plus sticker books, bumper stickers, gifts, and lots more. I found a Patricia Cornwell paperback on sale for only $1.00. Plus, it smells really good in there!

We picked up two magazines - one is called Local Table and features articles about food and farming, plus whole and natural foods. Their website is at http://www.localtable.net.

The other one, Slingshot, is from Berkeley, California. You can check out their website at www.thelonghaul.org. It's way fun to read, because there are events and news there you won't see anywhere else. The long version of this publication's name is "Long Haul Infoshop Radical Library." It reminds me of the issue of Akwesasne Notes I read once. It had the only news about Wounded Knee that actually told what really happened.

Going to the Grand Ole Opry - Roy Clark

There were so many first class singers and musicians here... but if I had to pick one that really stood out, it would have to be Roy Clark. This was the first time I ever went to the Grand Ole Opry... and I hope not the last. What a fun time!

Digg!

Roy Clark was really great

I thought his hands were still SO fast. He was funny - - so much of his personality shone out. I feel lucky to have seen him.

Digg!

Go, Roy!

Can that man ever play the guitar.

Digg!
